Questions Teachers Should Ask Before Booking a School Trip
The best time to discover a weakness in a proposal is before the deposit is paid.
What exactly is included?
Ask for a written list covering transport, accommodation, meals, entrance fees, guides, activities, staff places and taxes. Then ask what is specifically excluded.
Who is responsible on the ground?
Find out whether there is a tour leader, local office or emergency contact and whether support is available outside normal business hours.
How are suppliers and activities checked?
Ask how hotels, transport companies, guides and activity operators are selected and reviewed, and what safety information can be provided to support the school’s own approval process.
What happens if something changes?
Understand the process for flight disruption, illness, severe weather, activity cancellation or a student needing medical care. Good providers can explain escalation and communication clearly.
What are the financial terms?
Check deposits, payment schedule, minimum numbers, cancellation charges, refund conditions, currency assumptions and applicable financial protection.
How does this trip meet our learning aims?
Ask the provider to explain the educational logic of the itinerary. If the answer is only a list of famous attractions, the programme may need further development.
